“He knew what he signed up for”: Donald Trump tells pregnant widow of U.S. Army

Just when you think it can't get worse, Donald Trump ups the ante and says or does something totally unexpected of a president.

His tactless comment to a pregnant grieving Army widow has left people stunned. It took president Trump nearly two weeks to reach out to Myeshia Johnson after her husband, U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, 25, was killed in a deadly ambush in Niger on Oct. 4. When he finally reached out to her on Tuesday, his words to her were far from comforting.

"He knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway," Trump told the widow.

Rep. Frederica Wilson said she was with Myeshia Johnson in a car headed to Miami International Airport on Tuesday afternoon to meet the body of Johnson's late husband Sgt. La David T. Johnson when the president called. Wilson said she heard part of the conversation on speaker phone and she was sure he made those insensitive remarks.

Americans criticized him for the comment which they described as offensive. But President Trump denied the claims, calling it "total fabrication".
